25th Anniversary Countdown!

Week 19 - October 20th, 2003

Fashion Show & Fundraiser

Louise Carrier, Weekender Fashion Coordinator

By day, Louise Carriere is a physiotherapist who has years of experience working with neurology patients. By evening, she is a Weekender Fashion Coordinator, giving presentations to sell Weekender clothing.

When Louise discovered that Parkinson Society Ottawa was celebrating its 25th Anniversary with a variety of events, she offered to hold a Weekender Fashion Party & Fundraiser for the Society.

Louise’s interest in this clothing line came about when she saw the kind of clothes that were designed for people with disabilities – and found that many of them lacked a sense of fashion. She discovered Weekender, and realized their clothing line was not only fashionable, but was also very easy to wear (stretchy,  with minimal fastenings), easy to care for, long lasting and made in Canada!

Considering a new outfit?
So, on Thursday 23 October, a group gathered at the Society office to see what Weekender had to offer, shared coffee and treats, chatted, and had a good time.  Louise and her friend, Teresa, modelled the clothing.  Another friend, Victoria, provided a door prize from Mary Kay Cosmetics.

The Society Office transformed into a Fashion Party

Checking out colours and fabrics

It was another win-win opportunity – Parkinson Society Ottawa won by having an opportunity to raise awareness in a new area and make some money; Louise and Weekender won because they were able to expand their exposure and sell some of their product.

And this may just be a small partnership in the making.
