About Us

Parkinson Society Ottawa, incorporated in 1978, is a registered Canadian charity (119 080 497 RR0001), and a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of people with Parkinson's and their families in the Eastern Ontario area.

As a regional partner of Parkinson Society Canada, Parkinson Society Ottawa is committed to excellence. Our programs and are evidence-based, delivered by professionals and incorporate the best available knowledge and practice.

These include:

  • Counselling, information and referral to community  programs  
  • "Taking Charge" education sessions for individuals and  families  
  • Support Groups: 16 groups across the region for people living  with Parkinson's, care partners, couples, people that are newly diagnosed and  those with early onset Parkinson's  
  • Physiotherapist supported exercise classes  
  • Tai  Chi programs  
  • Voice  maintenance/strengthening, speech  therapy groups  
  • Public  education, advocacy and awareness  
  • Support for leading edge research, through our national peer  reviewed process
Parkinson Society Ottawa coordinates services and programs across Eastern Ontario, in Brockville, Arnprior, Cornwall, Kanata, Ottawa, Orleans, Pembroke, Renfrew, Perth,  and Winchester.

If you or someone you know is suffering from Parkinson's disease, you have come to the right place because we are dedicated to improving your quality of life.

Our goal is to help people with Parkinson's, their families, friends and caregivers in the Ottawa region by:

  • Working with family physicians and neurologists to offer advice, information and services;
  • Providing specialized physiotherapy and Tai Chi classes designed to maintain flexibility and strength;
  • Offering one-on-one counselling and support groups;
  • Recommending helpful books and videos from our extensive library;
  • Promoting and assisting research into the cause, effects, treatment and cure of Parkinson's;
  • Organizing fundraising events, social gatherings and awareness activities; and
  • Educating professional care providers about the special needs of people with Parkinson's
