How you can help

I would like to make an online secure donation

What kind of donation would you like to make?

Our mission is to help the thousands of people in Eastern Ontario with Parkinson’s understand and cope with their disease. We work to improve the quality of life for people with Parkinson's and their families by providing information and counselling, and by supporting research.

But we can't do it alone...

To provide these services to people with Parkinson's and their families, we need your assistance. Won't you help?

Become a Member

Parkinson Society Ottawa membership allows you to vote at our Annual General Meeting. Our more than 700 registered community members give us our mandate to do the work that we do to deliver services and supports that make a difference, and to raise money for leading edge research for a cure. It’s true when they say that there is strength in numbers. Our members lend their weight to our requests for funding from foundations, government or corporate funders. When we speak to community leaders about issues affecting people and their families living with Parkinson’s in Eastern Ontario, the strong support of our membership ensures that people listen.

Membership with Parkinson Society Ottawa also has its benefits, including:

  • Advance notice of special events, therapeutic activities, educational workshops, and seminars through regular member mailings
  • Discounts to attend our annual educational symposium, Perspectives on Parkinson’s
  • Regular receipt of The Parkinson Paper, our quarterly newsletter, filled with relevant up-to-date information and advice on living well with Parkinson’s

As you can see, your membership matters! As a vital partner in Parkinson Society Ottawa, I would like to thank you for your support.

To become a member, please contact our office at (613) 722-9238 or e-mail us at psoc@lri.ca. You can also pay for your membership here.

General Donation

With a growing need for new programs and services for people with Parkinson's, the Society must depend on the kindness of its donors. Continuing and expanding our current programs, and introducing new services will be very difficult without your assistance. Your financial support can help us to accomplish our present and future goals.

To arrange a general donation, please contact our office at (613) 722-9238 or e-mail us at psoc@lri.ca.

You can also make a donation now.

Monthly Giving

The demand for our services is greater than ever. That's why your monthly donations are so important. That funding ensures that we are there to give people with Parkinson's the best possible help when they need us most.

If you choose to support our good work through a monthly donation, we will include you in the Treasured Tulip Club. You can donate any amount you wish. Your monthly pledge can be made efficiently and conveniently by pre-authorized debit from your account or from your Credit Card on the 15th of each month. The advantages include:

  • the payment is automatic-no need to remember to write and mail a monthly check; and
  • the administrative costs are kept to a minimum-more of your funds go straight to the programs; and
  • you can alter or cancel the plan at any time.
You can alter or cancel this plan at any time by notifying PSOR. To arrange an annual donation, please contact our office at (613) 722-9238 or e-mail us at psoc@lri.ca. You can also make a donation now.

Tributes and Memorials

Honor the accomplishments, milestones or special occasions of a friend or celebrate the memory of a loved one or by making a donation to support Parkinson Society Ottawa.

When you wish to honor a relative or friend

Tributes and memorials can be a very appropriate way of honoring a friend or a loved one. A gift in memory of a relative or friend is a generous and thoughtful way to recognize a person's life and accomplishments. A gift to Parkinson Society Ottawa can be a tribute that demonstrates the values of the deceased.

When You Wish To Express Your Gratitude

There are times when you wish to give thanks, and when a material gift is not quite appropriate. Such occasions could include: the occurrence of a special anniversary or birthday or an unusual achievement by an associate or relative. You could, in lieu of a gift, honor that person by establishing an honor tribute in his or her name with Parkinson Society Ottawa.

When a tribute or memorial gift is made, the Society notifies the honoree's next of kin.To arrange tribute or memorial, please contact our office at (613) 722-9238 or e-mail us at psoc@lri.ca. You can also make a donation now .

Planned Giving

Providing Hope For Today and Tomorrow

Your Planned Gift ensures continued support of leading-edge research into Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative diseases in Canada. Our Scientific Advisory Board receives dozens of promising applications each year; however, we are presently unable to fund all of them.

Your Planned Gift will enable us to fund more research in Canada, giving researchers the opportunity to investigate new and effective therapies and treatments for people living with Parkinson’s disease, with the goal of finding a cure.

Your Planned Gift also ensures our volunteers and staff will be able to reach more people with Parkinson’s through education, advocacy, and support services. A Planned Gift allows us to provide more programs and services, and gives us the opportunity to recruit specialized healthcare and allied professionals to offer dedicated and appropriate support services in Eastern Ontario – especially for people with advanced Parkinson’s.

Here are some of the ways to arrange a planned gift:

A Bequest in Your Will
A carefully written will ensures your assets are distributed according to your wishes. The residual interest in your estate or a cash bequest for a specific amount of money can be a legacy to those who have shared in and enriched your life. A bequest in your will – to Parkinson Society Ottawa can help you give back to your community.

A Gift of Life Insurance
You can make a significant gift with your life insurance policy – either signing over an existing policy, or purchasing a new policy naming Parkinson Society Ottawa as sole owner and beneficiary.

A Charitable Remainder Trust
You can transfer property to a trust, naming Parkinson Society Ottawa as the capital beneficiary.

A Gift of Residual Interest
You can make a gift in your lifetime (or a testamentary gift) of the residual interest in a property. You can continue using the property for life or whatever time you choose, donating what remains.

A Gift Annuity
A gift annuity means you can donate money today and ensure you have a stable income for the rest of your life. When you make a cash gift, Parkinson Society Ottawa purchases, on your behalf, an annuity designed to suit your personal needs and pays you a lifetime income. When you pass away, the principal goes to Parkinson Society Ottawa to benefit the lives of people with Parkinson’s.

If you wish to discuss a planned gift to Parkinson Society Ottawa, please contact our office at (613) 722-9238 or e-mail us at psoc@lri.ca.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are not paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.

Volunteers give from the heart-they also give Parkinson Society Ottawa its heart. And at the heart of our mission is to help Parkinson's patients and their families cope with the disease and assist them in maintaining the quality of their lives.

But we can't do it alone. If you have time to invest, we can find a way for you to make a valuable contribution to the Society. Can we count on your helping hand?

Special Events

Parkinson Society Ottawa offers several opportunities during the year for its members and sponsors to get together and support its activities:

January - Yuk Yuk's Comedy Night for Parkinson's

June - Annual General Meeting and Strawberry Social: This summer tradition provides an opportunity to meet other members.

September - Superwalk for Parkinson's www.superwalk.com

December - Holiday Party: Bring your family and celebrate the holidays with us.

If you need more information on any of these events, please contact Parkinson Society Ottawa at (613) 722-9238 or via email at psoc@lri.ca.

Third Party Events

Parkinson Society Ottawa is very lucky to receive funds from many events organized by people with Inspiring Stories who want to make a difference for people living with Parkinson’s disease. Some ideas include raising pledges for a trek, run or climb, organizing a special event, or even having people donate to Parkinson Society Ottawa instead of gifts at a Birthday Party, Wedding or other special occasion.

Please contact Hilary Evans at hievans@toh.on.ca or 613-722-9238 if you are interested in organizing a third party event on our behalf. We will discuss your idea, give you tips and review our Third Party Event Contract.
