Parkinson Society Ottawa Inspirations!
Parkinson Society Ottawa is truly honoured when regular people choose our cause to benefit from their hard work. Here are some of the stories of people who have chosen to get involved and are making a difference.
Dedicated Parkinson Society Ottawa volunteer Alice Templin and her friend Claire Veenstra are currently on the journey of a lifetime hiking the Camino de Santiago de Compostela.
Alice decided to use this journey as an opportunity to raise funds for Parkinson Society Ottawa. Click here to read her story and here if you would like to support her:

Kili Conquerors for Parkinson's – Local registered nurse and wellness expert, Reta Currie, and her team of 6 will be off to conquer Mt. Kilimanjaro in February, 2011. This team also includes Sandy Bookalam, a Medical Laboratory Technologist at the Ottawa Hospital and Julia Warkentin-Bruneau, an Internet Entrepreneur of Ottawa and 3 others from around the country. Click here to read more of their stories and to support these courageous climbers.
This group has decided to use this trip of a lifetime, organized through Tusker Trails (www.tusker.com), as also a reason to raise $50,000 for Parkinson Society Ottawa and Societies across Canada. Their first fundraising event was a huge success raising $9,000 for Parkinson Society Ottawa. They are also still busy recruiting team members for the climb and there is still plenty of room to join the team. While members cover their own trip expenses, Parkinson Society Ottawa is providing fundraising advice and promotional support. For more information contact Reta at 613-271-1673 or evasdotter@yahoo.com.
Marlayne Hardy, a Stamping Up! Demonstrator hosted her first fundraising stamping party for Parkinson Society Ottawa in April in memory of her grandmother. The event was a huge success and Marlayne plans on doing it again next year. Thank you Marlayne!
Parkinson Society Ottawa is very grateful to the following people for choosing our cause to benefit from their special events again this year.
Emily Leger – once again collected funds for PSO instead of Birthday gifts for in March 2010 – Amazing for an 11 year old – thank you Emily.
Brenda Lavergne hosted her Annual Golf Tournament to raise funds for SuperWalk and successfully raised over $2,600 while having a great day. Thank you to Brenda and her team for their hard work and to all her continued supporters.
Jeff Kaluski’s Annual Birthday Party – Jeff asks friends and family to donate to Parkinson Society Ottawa in lieu of gifts, which is very commendable.
